Discovering delicious ways to use locally grown food and reducing food waste

13 & 14 September 2025

St Paul’s Church, Coronation Road, Bristol, BS3 1AS

BS3 Jammin’ is an annual weekend event for the local community to donate their surplus homegrown foods, for us to all cook, press and preserve it, in order to reduce food waste and support our local food bank.

Volunteer chefs (which include Mark Chapman from Cor Restaurant, Elliott and Tessa Lidstone from Box - E Restaurant, Masterchef contestant Woei Lee and Bristol City College’s Bill Bennet Clark) cook all weekend as members of the public help with food prep and learn from the chefs.

Other activities include apple pressing, following our very own PYO Map around BS3 and finding out what’s growing in the area, a cooking competition (where the only rule is to use something from the harvest), an educational compost stall, arts and crafts and more!

In the parish: How to run a community food project

The premise of BS3 Jammin’ is straightforward: gather surplus food and jars from the local community to create preserves, juices, and meals. The project was hosted by St Paul’s, Southville, in Bristol, and led by a member of the community, Cags Diep, who was inspired to create the project after witnessing the panic, greed, and food shortages during the Covid-19 pandemic. It became clear to her that many communities were overlooking the potential of untapped local food resources…
